A reason to smile

A DATE WITH DESTINY

Smile and the world smiles with you, weep and you weep alone,so the saying goes.

Do we need a reason to smile ?
Life throws curved balls at us every once in a while and we should learn to field it as we navigate our way through.Smiling even through the lows we can help one another along the way.

Sometimes the journey is long and tiresome---
enjoy the trip as the reward at the end of the rainbow is multi hued..

A Date with Destiny
--------------------------
He walked down the stage to take the podium amidst thundering applause.
The 10 minute time-slot(the big reveal, promised to the world at large) had drawn in record crowd with many more slated to watch on news channels and videos.Taking a breath he spoke
.
The memory was sharp and clear, his tear stained face, quivering lips, little body convulsing with hunger and cold,he was hiding behind the huge waste bin away from sight of the house where his mother worked as a maid. 'Hush,I will be back soon' she whispered as she almost ran into the huge house.Peering through the trees he spied a man lying still on an easy chair with a large plate filled with mouth watering food and a bottle of water.Pangs of hunger overcame his fear as he edged nearer ,but his innate sense of honesty made him hesitate.Soon he lay down on the warm paver bricks and slept. The sound of a fighter plane woke him and with a start he realized that the wizened old man was watching him intently.Soon he beckoned and mimed his intention of sharing the food and water,Still hesitant he realized that the man was not really old but in pain. Also his use of sign language encouraged the child and soon they were furiously signing back and forth.

He, a wounded war veteran in a lot of pain needed therapy- and the boy who had lost his father in one of the war raids hence unable to articulate -found themselves communicating . They shared the food that he had been unable to eat alone. He asked for help to eat the food, the little waif responded in the affirmative but questioned what he would tell his mother.Almost at once he heard her call him softly. He beckoned and she came forward shyly almost afraid but sensing a change as her little one was animated and gesticulating wildly.Following the gestures and signs she decided to allow the friendship to grow as her son was innately profound and could sense emotions.

The rehabilitation helped as each put in efforts to help the other, soon the veteran found his muscles strengthened and regular therapy helped regain the use of his limbs. The little boy found his voice and being home schooled ,his knowledge kept him ahead of the class. His progress aided by the insurance money and veteran aid helped him graduate magna cum laude. His dedication to help wounded and untiring efforts working with Doctors across Borders had earned him recognition and fame.

Smiling at his loving mother and his benevolent father who had  helped him believe in himself ,he walked to the podium and began his speech amidst thunderous applause.
